Examination Scheme for Recruitment to the post
of Junior Parliamentary Interpreter (English/Hindi)
The Examination Scheme for recruitment to the post of Junior Parliamentary Interpreter (English/Hindi) in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat consists of four stages -
1 Oration Test
2.Written Test
3 Simultaneous Interpretation Test
3 Simultaneous Interpretation Test
4.Interview
1. Oration Test

In the Oration Test seven topics each in English and Hindi will be given to the candidates and a candidate will be required to speak ex-tempore for three minutes on a topic in English from the topics given in English and for three minutes on a topic in Hindi from the topics given in Hindi.. The objective of the test is to assess fluency, language content; style, pronunciation and accent; material content; and voice of the candidate.
2. Written Test
Candidates qualifying the Oration Test for the post of Junior Parliamentary Interpreter (English/Hindi) will have to appear for written test as per the details given below:.

Candidates have to qualify both papers of the Written Test and components thereof at the requisite standards to be determined by Recruitment Cell.Only those candidates who qualify the Written Test will be allowed to appear in the Simultaneous Interpretation test.Prior to that, candidates would be provided short training in Simultaneous Interpretation.
3. Simultaneous Interpretation Test

In the Simultaneous Interpretation Test, the performance of the candidates will be assessed under five specific parameters i.e. Coverage; Accuracy; Style and Diction; Continuity of Interpretation; and Voice, Pronunciation and Accent.Only those candidates who qualify the Simultaneous Interpretation Test will be allowed to appear for the Interview.
4. Interview (40 marks)
The interview is structured to evaluate the interests, knowledge, traits, aptitude, skills etc. of the candidates with a view to assess his/her overall personality and to judge his/her suitability for the post.
5. Merit List
Merit list will be prepared based on the overall marks obtained in Oration Test (100 marks), Written Test (260 marks), Simultaneous Interpretation Test (100 marks) and Interview (40 marks). Candidates eliminated at any stage of recruitment process would not be included in the final merit list.

The syllabus of the Written Test for recruitment to the post of Junior Parliamentary Interpreter (English/Hindi) in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat is as under:
Paper I
General Intelligence
Questions shall be both verbal and non-verbal types.Test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship, concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, coding & decoding, etc.
General Awareness
Questions shall aim at testing the candidate's awareness of current events and environment around him, besides testing the knowledge of Everyday Science, Scientific Research, Sports, Indian Culture, Indian History, Indian Geography, Economics, Indian Polity, Indian Constitution, etc.
English Language and Hindi Language
Questions in this component are designed to test the candidate's understanding, correct usage and knowledge of English and Hindi Languages and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using Verbs, Prepositions, etc.), vocabulary, spellings, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, sentence completion, phrases and idioms, etc.
Paper - II
Translation in English and Hindi
This paper will contain passages for translation- one passage for translation from Hindi to English and one passage for translation from English to Hindi.The other questions in the paper shall test the candidate's translation skills, his/her knowledge of the Hindi & English languages, including familiarity with Parliamentary expressions, language used in Parliamentary debates and discussions and his/her knowledge of the general phrases/terminologies etc. The paper shall also test his/her ability to write the two languages correctly, precisely and effectively.
