NURSING CAREER

In the profession of nursing, there are different types of caregivers which work in various sectors and institutions. Some may work as registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, unlicensed assistant personnel and advanced practice registered nurses. All of the licensed professions have their own lawful defined scope of practice as defined by law and the by the Board of Nursing in every region.
“Scope of practice” is a term that is used to specify the procedures, actions, etc. which are permitted by the law based on a particular profession. It is limited to what the law may allow according to specified experiences and qualifications. Thus, for nurses, it is important to know not only their scope of practice but also the scope of practice of other nurses in the hospital or center where they work at.
Scope of Nursing Practice
The job of nurses is valuable in every kind of health environment such as accidents, emergencies at the homes of patients, etc which involve all kinds of people, young and old alike.
A nursing career is certainly interesting, challenging and rewarding as well. There is a wide scope of nursing practices.
There are 3 types of clients and customers whom nurses provide care for namely: Individuals, Families, Communities.  The areas which nursing practice cover include prevention of diseases, promotion of health, cure of diseases, rehabilitative care, and care of dying patients.
Furthermore, nurses and nursing assistants are needed in all hospitals and health centers and organizations especially in operating rooms and general wards. This career is also promising as it gives the nurses optimum opportunity to earn a living. Thus, the surge of nursing courses continues until now. There is a high demand for nurses in many countries today. Some of the nurses in several local countries even seek for better opportunities abroad since the demand for nurses worldwide is continuously increasing.
But before engaging in nursing work, a person must have the necessary qualifications by taking up a nursing course. Some of the generally known Nursing Career Specializations are as follows:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
  • Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
  • Advanced Practice Nurse (APN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Clinical Nurse Practitioner (CNP)
  • Clinical Nursing Science (DNSc)
  • Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • Doctor of Nursing (ND)
In order to become an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), there are certain requirements that registered nurses must meet. Certainly, with a wide range of courses and scope, nursing is one of the most preferred course that students take up today.
